Wrestling Ranked in WIN Magazine Preseason Poll

NEWTON, Iowa - Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN) has released its 2019-2020 preseason rankings, and the Old Dominion University wrestling program made the rankings, tied for 21stin the nation with Rutgers. 

WIN magazine also released its rankings based on weight class, and four Monarchs are featured on those top-20 lists as well.

Senior Larry Early, coming off of a season where he earned All-American honors placing eighth at the NCAA Championships at 157 pounds, is ranked fourth in the country his weight class. Last season, Early defeated NC State’s Hayden Hidlay in a home dual between the two schools. Hidlay is the top-ranked wrestler on WIN magazine’s list in the 157-pound weight class.

Junior Michael McGee was ranked seventh in the 125-pound class preseason poll,  after posting a 31-6 record and becoming a two-time national qualifier in last year’s campaign.

Senior Sa’Derian Perry cracks the top-20 list in the 141-pound class, coming in at 14th. Perry was nationally ranked throughout all of last season and took fifth in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) finals.

In the heavyweight class, junior Will Hilliard rounds out WIN Magazine’s top-20 list. Hilliard posted a 16-6 record and took seventh in last season’s MAC Championships. 

Iowa tops the preseason poll, followed by Penn State and Wisconsin to round out the top three. For WIN Magazine’s full preseason rankings list, click here.
