Bio

Scepter Brownlee completed his first season as the assistant coach for Old Dominion women's basketball in 2018-19.

In his first season with ODU in 2018-19, Old Dominion posted one of the biggest turnarounds not only in program history, but in the nation. The Monarchs went 21-11, marking a 13-win improvement from the previous season. The 13+ win mark was the sixth-highest in the NCAA in 2018-19 and the second-best in program history. With the 21 wins, ODU earned an at-large bid to the WNIT, the program's seventh appearance in the WNIT and first postseason appearance since 2015. ODU had a nearly 15-point improvement offensively from a season ago, as the Monarchs increased their scoring average from 54.6 in 2017-18 to 68.5.

Brownlee came to ODU from King's Ridge Christian School in Georgia, where he was the assistant athletic director and boys' varsity basketball coach from 2014 to 2018. In addition, Brownlee is also the founder, CEO and master trainer of Great Day Basketball, which was founded in 2011.

Prior to his stints in high school and club basketball in the Atlanta area, Brownlee coached for seven years in the men's collegiate game. Brownlee was an assistant for Georgia State from 2007 to 2011 and then prior to GSU, Brownlee was an assistant at Southeast Missouri State in 2006-07. He also served as graduate assistant at Tennessee under head coach Bruce Pearl in 2005-06. Brownlee's first coaching job was an assistant at Colby Community College in Kansas in 2004-05.

At Tennessee was where Brownlee first met McCray-Penson, where Brownlee eventually served as McCray's trainer during the latter years of her WNBA career.

Brownlee graduated from the University of San Francisco in 2004 with a degree in Sociology. At USF, Brownlee was a two-year letterwinner and point guard. He earned the Jackie Robinson USF African American Athlete of the Year Award as a senior.
