ODU Defeats Stanford, 6-1, In NCAA First Round Field Hockey Action

NORFOLK, Va. (Nov.11) - Number one seed Old Dominion University got three goals from Marina DiGiacomo (Mendoza, Argentina) to defeat Stanford University, 6-1 in the NCAA first round of the field hockey tournament on Nov. 11. The Lady Monarchs, 22-1 will face Connecticut on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Junior forward Laura Steadman (Va. Beach, Va.) put the Lady Monarchs on the board first 31:09 left in the first half, but the Cardinal tied the match with 22:39 left in the first half on a goal by Melissa Stai (San Diego, CA.).
Old Dominion then got two goals from four-time CAA Player of the Year DiGiacomo and one from Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA.) to take a 4-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, freshman Angie Loy (Loysville, PA.) and DiGiacomo completed the scoring with one goal each. Old Dominion out shot Stanford, 34-1. The Cardinal complete their season with a 13-11 record.
