NORMAN – No. 3/2 Oklahoma softball opened the NCAA Norman Regional in dominant fashion, run ruling Boston University 9-0 in five innings on Friday night at Marita Hynes Field.
With the win, the Sooners moved to 51-3 on the year while the Terriers fell to 39-19. Oklahoma advanced into the winner's bracket and will face Tulsa at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Paige Parker and Paige Lowary combined on OU's 25th shutout of the year. Parker started the first 4.0 frames, scattering three hits and striking out four to move to 27-2 on the season. Lowary retired three batters in order in the fifth to seal the win, registering one strikeout.
Sydney Romero and Jocelyn Alo both collected multiple RBIs in the contest. Romero tallied her fifth three-RBI game of the season while Alo had her 12th showing with two.
After the first two innings were scoreless, the Sooners struck first in the third. Shay Knighten blooped a single into left to drive in Kelsey Arnold from second.
An eight-run fourth inning lifted Oklahoma to its 20th run-rule victory of the season. With the bases loaded, she recorded her first triple of the season, splitting the gap in right center to clear the bags.
Alo followed with her 25th home run of the season, a two-run shot to center.
The Sooners then loaded the bases again, and Nicole Mendes drew a walk to bring pinch runner Vanessa Taukeiaho home. Raegan Rogers then hit into a fielder's choice that gave Nicole Pendley space to reach home. Finally, an infield single by Kelsey Arnold plated Caleigh Clifton.
Saturday's contest with Tulsa will be a rematch from the regular season. The two teams last met on April 17 in Tulsa, Okla., when a solo home run from Alo proved the difference-maker in a 1-0 win by Oklahoma.
The game will air on the ESPN family of networks, with channel assignment to be determined. Additionally, it can be heard on the air via KEBC 1560 AM in Norman or online through the Franchise 2.
