CORVALLIS, Ore. – With its second straight shutout win, No. 2/2 Oklahoma softball clinched the series sweep against Oregon State, defeating the Beavers 8-0 in six innings at OSU Softball Complex on Saturday.
The Sooners registered their 17th run-rule victory of the season to move to 41-3 on the year while the Beavers fell to 26-19. In the two-game series, OU outscored OSU 12-0.
Mariah Lopez and Parker Conrad combined on the Sooners’ 21st shutout of the season. Lopez remained perfect on the year, moving to 14-0 as she allowed four hits and one walk while fanning six over 5.0 innings. Conrad closed the final frame with one hit and two strikeouts.
Fale Aviu and Nicole Pendley led the Sooners at the plate, both finishing the day 2-for-3 while Aviu drove in three runs. Caleigh Clifton also had a multi-RBI performance, bringing in two runs with a 1-for-3 game and scoring two.
The Sooners opened scoring in the top of the fourth. With two runners in scoring position, Clifton hit a blooper to right field that plated Jocelyn Alo.
Clifton stole second before the next batter, Aviu, split the gap in left center to drive in Pendley and Clifton.
Shay Knighten drilled her fourth home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning, a solo shot to left center that extended OU’s lead to 4-0.
Her blast was a spark for three more runs in the fifth. With runners on first and second, Oregon State’s third baseman misplayed a hard-hit grounder from Clifton, giving Alo space to reach home. Aviu and Raegan Rogers then drilled back-to-back singles up the middle that brought Pendley and Clifton home.
In the top of the sixth, freshman Alexa Schultz entered the game to pinch hit and earned her first collegiate hit with a solo home run to center field.
Up next, the Sooners wrap up their road trip on Wednesday with a game at North Texas in Denton, Texas.
