Sooners Claim Second Straight Victory
NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma men’s golf team won its second straight tournament as it claimed The Goodwin title with a three-round 828 (-24). The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the par-71, 7,143-yard TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif.
The team victory is the 18th under ninth-year head coach Ryan Hybl and it marks the first time since 2015 that OU has won back-to-back tournaments. The Sooners won the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, last week and have three tournament titles this season.
OU’s three-day 828 (-24) marked the second-lowest 54-hole total for the Sooners this season as OU bested a competitive 25-team field. The Sooners held off No. 5 California, who recorded an 831 (-21). Host No. 13 Stanford took third at 836 (-16), while Oregon claimed fourth place at 842 (-10).
During Saturday’s final round, Oklahoma posted a 280 (-4) as four Sooners picked up top-10 finishes at the event.
OU’s top finisher was junior Brad Dalke, who earned his fourth top-5 finish of the season with a three-day 207 (-6). The junior posted a 72 (+1) during Saturday’s final round to pick up his third consecutive top-5 finishes.
Junior Blaine Hale and senior Grant Hirschman both took a share of seventh place with an overall 208 (-5). Hirschman led the Sooners during the final round with a season-low 66 (-5) to pick up his fifth top-10 finish of the year. The senior picked up seven birdies on Saturday, sinking a pair of crucial birdie putts on holes No. 16 and No. 18 to seal the win. Hale earned his fifth top-10 finish of the season, picking up a 72 (+1) on Saturday.
Redshirt senior Quade Cummins tallied a 70 (-1) during the final round and finished the tournament with an overall 209 (-4). Cummins’ three-day 209 matched the redshirt sophomore’s 54-hole career low. The Weatherford, Okla., native has picked up three top-10 finishes in four events this spring.
Sophomore Riley Casey wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 38th place at 215 (+2), carding a 73 (+2) during Saturday’s final round.
OU concludes the regular season at the Arizona State Thunderbird Classic in Tempe, Ariz., April 14-15 (Saturday-Sunday).
