Sooners Fall to OSU, 4-0

NORMAN  The No. 44 Oklahoma women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 13 Oklahoma State Saturday, 4-0, in the annual Bedlam contest. The loss was just OU's second at home this season.

With the loss, OU moves to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play. OSU improves to 13-2 on the year and 3-1 in conference action.

Oklahoma gave up the doubles point to open the match. Christie Brigante and Jasmine Asghar were defeated by the Cowgirls' No. 14 Sofia Blano and Vladica Babic, 6-3, on court one.

At No. 2, OU's Lily Miyzaki and Malene Stripp fell to Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova, 6-4. The Sooners trailed 4-2 before tying the frame at 4-all. 

When play was halted, Camila Romero and Simran Sethi were just a point away from closing out Shir Hornung and Megan McCray on court three, leading 5-4 at double match point.

In singles, OU’s Sethi was defeated by No. 96 Guinart, 6-1, 6-0, on court four. No. 28 Miyazaki fell to the Cowgirls’ No. 24 Vladica Babic, 6-2, 6-2, in the top spot.

At No. 2, Asghar was defeated by OSU’s No. 42 McCray, 6-3, 6-4, to give Oklahoma State the win.

When play was abandoned, the Sooners’ Brigante was tied at 3-all with No. 87 Stresnakova in the second set. Stresnakova took the first frame, 6-4.

Romero looked to close out the second set, leading OSU’s Blanco, 5-4, after dropping the opening frame. 

OU’s Stripp also looked to grab her second set, up 5-2 on Shir Hornung after Hornung won set one, 6-4. 

The Sooners return to action on Sunday, when they host No. 35 Wichita State at noon.
