OU Shuts Out Baylor to Claim Game One

WACO, Texas – No. 2/3 Oklahoma softball defeated No. 15/15 Baylor 5-0 on Thursday night at Getterman Stadium to clinch game one of the series.

The Sooners (29-2, 4-0 Big 12) have now won 20 consecutive games, good for the nation’s longest streak. Additionally, with the win over the Lady Bears (20-7, 0-1 Big 12), OU extended its road winning streak to 34 games, dating back to 2016.

The victory marked OU’s 16th shutout of the season and fifth win over a ranked opponent.

Paige Parker recorded her third shutout of the season, allowing no runs on two hits while recording one strikeout and walking three. She has now registered 34 consecutive scoreless innings.

The Sooners were led at the plate by Nicole Mendes and Fale Aviu. Mendes finished the day 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Aviu went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

After the first four innings were scoreless, the Sooners got on the board in the top of the fifth. Aviu reached on a fielder’s choice before Mendes drilled a double off the left center wall to plate Aviu from first.

OU’s lead was extended to 4-0 in the top of the sixth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Aviu recorded her own double to left center to plate pinch runner Raegan Rogers.

Sydney Romero then drove a single up the middle that brought Kelsey Arnold and Aviu home. Romero now leads the team with 41 RBIs this season.

The Sooners added an insurance run in the seventh. With two runners in scoring position, Lea Wodach drilled a grounder to shortstop that gave pinch runner Hannah Sparks space to run home.

The Sooners and the Bears meet again on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game is scheduled to be aired via Fox Sports Southwest Plus and can be heard on air on KEBC 1560 AM or online through the Franchise 2.
