LUBBOCK, Texas — Senior center Vionise Pierre-Louis finished with 22 points and eight rebounds as Oklahoma used a strong defensive effort to defeat Texas Tech, 73-52, on Wednesday inside United Supermarkets Arena.
Pierre-Louis recorded her third 20-point scoring game of the season on 10-of-13 shooting as OU (8-8, 3-2 Big 12) outscored the Lady Raiders (6-10, 0-5 Big 12), 48-32, in the paint. Ana Llanusa added 12 points and picked up four rebounds, while Maddie Manning filled the stat sheet with nine points, 10 rebounds and a season-high eight steals.
After grabbing a 39-29 lead at halftime, the Sooners put the game way by holding Texas Tech to just eight points in the third quarter, the fewest allowed by Oklahoma in one quarter this seaosn. OU used a 9-0 run out of the locker room to extend their lead to 47-29, forcing Texas Tech to burn a timeout. Pierre-Louis scored 13 of her 22 points in the second half as OU continued to dominate offensively in the post.
OU's defense forced a season-high 15 steals and forced 27 Texas Tech turnovers, while limiting the Lady Raiders to just .388 field goal shooting and a .182 clip from 3-point range on their home floor.
The Sooners finished with .439 shooting percentage in the win and won the rebounding battle, 41-34. OU also outscored Texas Tech, 27-18, in points off of turnovers.
Shaina Pellington and Mandy Simpson each scored eight points for the Sooners, while Gabbi Ortiz recorded seven and dished a team-high five assists. Ortiz became the 35th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club, knocking down two free throws in the second quarter to accomplish the feat.
The win gave OU its 14th straight win over Texas Tech and its seventh consecutive victory over the Lady Raiders in Lubbock.
Jada Terry was the only Lady Raider to finish in double figures, picking up a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
