NORMAN – Oklahoma scored nine runs over the first two innings and never looked back in a 16-0, 10-inning victory over North Texas Friday night to close out the fall exhibition schedule.
The Sooners offense produced 18 hits and scored in six of the first seven innings.
Six different OU batters had at least two hits, while senior Nicole Pendley led the way with a 3-3 day and three runs batted in. She was one of four Sooners to drive in at least three runs, joining junior Shay Knighten, who had four, and senior Lea Wodach and junior Kylie Lundberg, who each had three.
Oklahoma pitchers allowed just two hits to the Mean Green. At one stretch, the Sooners’ staff retired 21 straight batters between a two-out single in the second inning and a leadoff single in the 10th.
Senior Paige Parker made her fall debut, striking out two with one hit allowed and three walks issued in 2.2 innings of work. Sophomore Parker Conrad entered in relief and was perfect over the next 3.1 innings as she struck out two with no baserunners allowed.
Sophomore Nicole Mendes was also perfect in her inning in the circle, striking out one. Fellow sophomore Mariah Lopez closed out the game, notching seven strikeouts and surrendering a lone single over 3.0 innings.
Oklahoma began their offensive onslaught in the first inning with a five-run frame. Knighten and Lundberg had RBI doubles in the inning, while Pendley added a run-scoring single of her own.
The lead grew to 9-0 after a four-run second inning thanks to an RBI single for junior Falepolima Aviu, another two-run double for Knighten and another RBI single for Pendley.
Lundberg drove in her third run of the game with a single to left center in the third inning to make it 10-0, while junior Caleigh Clifton and Pendley provided RBI singles in the fourth inning to give Oklahoma a 12-0 advantage.
After a scoreless fifth inning, Wodach drove in two runs with a double and freshman Lynnsie Elam added a run-scoring single as OU led 15-0 through six innings. The final run came in the seventh as Wodach picked up her second RBI of the game.
