NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team lost to No. 3 Texas, 3-1, in front of 1,210 at McCasland Field House on Sunday afternoon. The Sooners won the first set behind nine kills from junior outside hitter Madison Drescher (Southlake, Texas), 26-24, before the Longhorns rallied to win the next three.
Drescher tallied 10 kills on her first 10 swings of the day as she finished with a team-high 17. Texas outside hitter Lexi Sun notched a match-leading 19 kills on a .333 attack rate.
“We are doing some great things together and passing the ball pretty well,” said OU head coach Santiago Restrepo. “I thought that we made a few too many errors in the second and third set, but we did a great job coming back and fighting in the fourth.”
The Sooners (5-16, 2-6 Big 12) hit .406 in the first to UT’s .312. For the match, Texas outhit OU, .287-.153.
After the first set, the Longhorns (16-2, 8-0) evened the match with a 25-13 win in the second. Texas pulled away with a 25-18 win in the third and a narrow 25-22 fourth to clinch the match.
For the match, the Longhorns totaled 16 blocks to just six for the Sooners. Chiaka Ogbogu led all players with nine as five Texas players notched four or more. Drescher totaled a team-high four blocks for Oklahoma.
Micaya White and Ogbodu contributed to the Texas attack with 11 kills each. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) was the second Sooner in double figures as she notched her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 23 digs, which led all players.
Texas setter Ashley Shook dished out 46 assists and picked up eight digs and four blocks. Oklahoma junior setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) collected 35 assists and eight digs. Libero Cat McCoy led the Longhorns with 21 digs.
The Sooners return to action Wednesday, October 25 at Kansas at 6:30 p.m.
