WACO, Texas – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team lost 3-1 to Baylor at the Ferrell Center on Saturday afternoon. The Sooners fell behind with a 25-10 loss in the first before evening the match by taking the second, 25-19. The Bears finished the match by winning the next two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-23.
Baylor hit .344 in the first and totaled seven blocks on Oklahoma attackers. The Sooners pulled in in the match behind a 5-0 run and 6-0 run in the second, which was won on a combo block from junior setter Morgan Miller (Magnolia, Texas) and redshirt-junior middle blocker Leslie Atherton (Tulsa, Okla.), who was inserted into the OU lineup for the second.
After the Bears regained a set advantage, the fourth was tied at 17-17 and 20-20 before Baylor pulled away for a narrow victory and clinch the match.
Katie Staiger led all players with 26 kills on a .444 attack rate and added 12 digs in the double-double effort. Aniah Philo also posted a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Oklahoma’s attack was led by junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) at 16 kills. She notched her team-leading seventh double-double of the season by adding 11 digs. Freshman Sarah Maras (Tulsa, Okla.), who started at middle blocker and moved to outside hitter for the second, was second on the team with six kills.
Baylor setter Hannah Lockin dished out a match-high 49 assists. Libero Jana Brusek picked up 17 digs, which led all players. Miller posted 25 assists for the Sooners and matched her career-high in blocks with five, including two solos. Redshirt-junior libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) totaled a team-high 15 digs.
Oklahoma returns home for a pair of matches at McCasland Field House next week beginning with a 7 p.m. first serve against Texas Tech on Wednesday, October 4.
