NORMAN — The Oklahoma men’s and women’s cross country teams both placed third at the Ken Garland Invitational, held at the North Texas Discovery Park in Denton, Texas, on Saturday morning.

The women’s side finished with 46 points, placing behind Baylor (38) and host North Texas (39). The men totaled 68 points, finishing ahead of Cameron (120) and after Baylor (26) and North Texas (31).

"There were several things we struggled with today," OU cross country associate coach Kevin Ondrasek said. "The course, the heat, the wind, even some new training adaptations. But, that's what we traveled down here for: to fight. The result isn't who we are, but how they respond to this adversity will define them this season. Back to work."

Isabella Rose, Sarah Scott and Alexandria Arndorfer paced the women, placing sixth (18:45.9), seventh (18:53.4) and eighth (19:28.7), respectively. Morgan Long claimed 11th (19:42.9), and Belle Wallace took 14th (20:02.3).

Other OU finishers for the women were Grace Barber (15th; 20:03.6), Sophia Fernald (16th; 20:08.3), CeCe Moore (18th; 20:17.3) and Lauren Gibbs (20th; 20:30.7).

The men’s team was led by redshirt junior Liam Meirow for the second consecutive meet. Meirow crossed the finish line 10th overall in 21:03.3. Brendan Taylor, Zach Gentry, Matthew Arndorfer and Ryan Tuescher finished in a pack, claiming 13th-16th, respectively (21:13.0; 21:19.8; 21:20.7; 21:30.7).

Also competing in the men’s race were Chris Staub (19th; 21:44.2) and Heath Warren (21st; 21:55.7).

Up next, the Sooners head to Stillwater, Okla., for the second time this season to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 30.
