NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia – Former Maryland soccer student-athlete Rodney Wallace became the fifth Terp to appear a World Cup finals match when he came on in the 81st minute of Costa Rica’s 2-2 draw against Switzerland at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. Wallace is the sixth Terp to be included in a World Cup squad.

Wallace finished out the match in the attack for the Ticos and was involved in the buildup that drew a penalty kick for Costa Rica and ultimately the game-tying goal. It was the final match of the tournament for Costa Rica as the CONCACAF side failed to advance out of Group E, which also included Brazil and Serbia.

Wallace joins Omar Gonzalez (2014, USA), Graham Zusi (2014, USA), Maurice Edu (2010, USA) and Desmond Armstrong (1990, USA) as former Terps to appear in soccer’s most prestigious tournament. Clarence Goodson was included in the United States’ 2010 squad, but did not appear in a match.
