Men's Soccer Announces Additions For 2018

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski announced Maryland’s 2018 recruiting class Friday morning.

The class features players from all over the world and currently is ranked top-15 in Top Drawer Soccer’s recruiting rankings. Maryland brings in players from three different countries and four different states.

"I am very excited to announce our 2018 recruiting class,” Cirovski said. “We have a great blend of local, national and international flavor. With two goalkeepers, two defenders, three midfielders and two forwards, we have added a very talented and balanced collection of players who all exemplify the virtues of a Maryland Soccer Player. As individuals, they are skillful, have fantastic attitudes, are extremely competitive and all have a history of being highly admired and respected by their coaches and teammates at all of the various teams they have competed on. I can't wait to integrate them with our already very hungry and talented returning group of players and begin our 2018 journey."

Before Maryland

Played for AS Trencin…listed as the best player at his club as multiple age levels and was named the best player in the club’s entire academy…played numerous time for Slovakian youth national teams, often as captain, from the U-15 to the U-19 level…2013 Memorial of Gejza Princ – best Slovakian player  born in 1999…2012 Indoor Slovakian Champion, named the best striker of the tournament…also recruited by Wake Forest, North Carolina and Indiana.

"Richard Bedats is a complete player. He is capable of playing anywhere in the back or midfield positions. He has a very high soccer IQ, has great feet, and is equally good on both sides of the ball. He is a true box to box midfielder with both grit and skill. His incredible international playing experience will make his transition to college soccer very seamless."

Before Maryland

Played for Baltimore Armour Development Academy…coached by Santino Quaranta and former Maryland captain Michael Marchiano…started 11 games for Armour’s U-18/U-19 team…advanced to the Dallas Cup Quarterfinals…Voted’s Best 11 Players for June/July 2016 after leading Cerritos Academy U-16 to the PA Classic Mid-Atlantic Cup “Championship” bracket…recipient of the Golden Glove award at multiple camps…Disney Soccer Showcase finalist with Cerritos Academy.

"Craig Eichelberger is an emerging and talented goalkeeper. He is a very good distributor of the ball. He is strong and has a good presence in goal. He has good hands and is also very courageous. He is also very vocal and knows how to command his backline."

Before Maryland

Starred at DeMatha Catholic High School for coach Andrew Quinn…scored 52 goals and notched 22 assists over his four seasons…three-time Washington Post All-Metro selection…United Soccer Coaches-Adidas High School All-American…2017 Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year…2017 WCAC Player of the Year…High School All-American…also played basketball at DeMatha…played club soccer for Baltimore Celtic…coached by Barry Stitz and Brandon Quaranta…helped Celtic win the U-17 USYS National Championship…captured the Golden Ball and was the leading scorer at the tournament…scored 59 goals in 42 games for Celtic…helped Celtic win two Maryland State Championships…was included in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd in November of 2014…Banneker/Key Scholarship recipient.


"Justin is a great goal scorer and a terrific competitor. He has tremendous athleticism and balance. He can score in variety of ways and has an advanced feel for where to be in the opponents penalty box and has a wide skillset in how to finish his chances. He is a proven winner and has a great mentality."

Before Maryland

Played in the French National Youth League…scored 10 goals in the national league and captained the side and scored 25 goals in the regional league…also played for Valenciennes FC reserves and U-19 team…played against Paris St. Germain and PSV Eindhoven youth teams.



"William is a box to box midfielder capable of playing anywhere on the field. He combines great technical skills with very good athleticism and a highly competitive mindset. His experience at the highest levels of academy and reserve team soccer in France will prepare him well for success in the college game."

Before Maryland

Played for Shattuck St. Mary’s…coached by Tim Carter and Steve Cornish…called up to the Peruvian U-20 National Team…called up to USA U-18 National Training Camp…Youth Olympic Gold Medalist at the 2014 Nanjing Games with the Peruvian U-15 National Team…Peruvian U-18 National Team…Member of Shattuck-St. Mary’s U-18 DA Team since 2014-15 season…spent senior season abroad in Italy playing with Brescia Primavera…has playing experience with the Roma, AC Milan, Napoli and Chievo Verona youth academies.


"Alessandro is a very gifted left footed defender and midfielder. He has had many great experiences all over the world and has a wonderful feel for the game. He is a versatile player comfortable in both the back four or anywhere in the midfield.  He has a great mentality and is a physically tough player in addition to his cultured skillset."

Before Maryland

Played for FC Dallas Academy…coached by Luchi Gonzalez and Chris Hayden…rated by Top Drawer Soccer as the No. 58 recruit in the country…called up to the USA U-17 National Team…U-15/U-16 Development Academy Central Conference Player of the Year and Best XI member…Top Drawer Soccer 2017 Generation Adidas Cup MLS Best XI…has eight goals for the FC Dallas U-18/U-19 DA team…scored 28 goals in 24 games for the Dallas U-15/16 team…scored a goal at the Generation Adidas Cup to defeat a Real Madrid youth team.i.


"Brayan Padilla is a special attacking talent with a cultured left foot.  He is a goalscorer who is best as a wide forward or midfielder. He has the ability to both create and finish his own chances in addition to combining with his teammates in the final third. He has great balance, is very agile, and has great speed with the ball at his feet."

Starred for Archbishop Curley…scored 17 goals and added 21 assists in his career…scored eight goals and added 11 assists as a senior…named the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year…Top Drawer Soccer All-American Game Best XI….two-time United Soccer Coaches High School All-American…four-time All-MIAA selection…first-team All-Metro on four occasions…named All-State three times…Varsity Sports Network Defender of the Year…played club for Baltimore Celtic for coach Barry Stitz and Brandon Quaranta…four-time Maryland State Champions…two-time regional 1 champions and helped Celtic win a national championship…trained with the USA U-17 National Team..


"Nick is a shutdown defender who is comfortable anywhere in the backline but can also play in the midfield.  He is very quick and strong for his size. Though he is calm on the ball and very good in possession, it’s his defensive tenacity and pride in defending that I love.  He reads the game very well, loves to break plays and is outstanding in transition."

Played for Atlanta United Academy…coached by Tony Annan and Liam Curran…started 13 games for Atlanta’s U-18/U-19 Development Academy team…started 20 games for the U-17/U-18 team the previous DA season…helped that squad finish first in the Southeast Division…rated by Top Drawer Soccer as the No. 102 recruit in the country…also played for Darlington Academy under Chad Liddle.

"Russell Shealy is a talented goalkeeper with great hands, and good feet. He has a great work ethic, is very strong and has a great ability to read the game.  He keeps the game simple and seems to always be in the right spot. He is vocal and possesses very good leadership qualities crucial for a goalkeeper."

Starred for Mount St. Joseph…played for his father Michael St. Martin for the Gaels…two-time all-state and all-MIAA selection…named to the Adidas All-American game in 2017…two-time Baltimore Sun All-Metro selection…named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Regional Team in 2017…played club for Baltimore Celtic under coach Brandon Quaranta…2016 State Cup Champion…2017 Regional Champion.


"Brett is a strong central defender who is good with both feet and is outstanding in the air.  Brett has the ability to win games in both penalty boxes.  He is extremely courageous and competitive. He can play out of the back when in possession, reads the game very well and takes great pride in his defending."
