📊 Live Stats

• MIDWEEK SUCCESS: Delaware is coming off one of their best performances of the season, as the Hens traveled to Maryland Thursday afternoon, defeating the Terps 7-1. Lefty Matt Hornich threw five strong innings (one earned run) for UD to pick up his first win of the season. The Hens bullpen was dominate once again as three relievers (Chris Ludman, Clay Conaway and Colman Vila) pitched four shutout innings.

• FIVE LETTERS (N-A-R-D-O) EQUALS FIVE RBI: Senior Diaz Nardo drove in five runs in yesterday’s 7-1 victory at Maryland. The senior hit his second home run of the year in the third inning (two-run shot), drove in two more runs in the sixth on a double before doubling home his fifth run of the game in the eighth. Nardo has now collected multiple hits in three out of his last four games and is batting .569 (9-for-16) over that span.

• FRESHMAN IMPACT: Three Blue Hens true freshman have made an impact so far this season, including a pair of former St. Mark’s teammates. Sunday’s projected starter Billy Sullivan IV currently leads the Blue Hens in wins (2), strikeouts (18) and is second in innings pitched (13.2). Freshman Chris Ludman (2.2 IP) has pitched in back-to-back games striking out a pair, while catcher Zach Miller has made four starts behind the plate, driving in a pair.

• KILLER “BEEEs”: Delaware trio of Billy (Sullivan IV), (Erik) Bowren and (Kyle) Baker have made huge contributions for the Hens so far this season. Baker (.450) and Bowren (.435) lead the team in average, stolen bases (Baker, 6), on-base percentage (Bowren, .519), RBI (Baker, 9) and slugging percentage (.725). The duo of Baker and Bowren have scored 17 runs and driven in 14 of Delaware’s 47 runs so far. The third member of the trio (Sullivan IV), leads the Hens in wins (2) and strikeouts (18), having allowed just one earned runs over his first three outings.

• POWER IS BACK: After hitting just two home runs and six extra-base hits over the first two weekends (at Charleston Southern and at FAU) of the season, the Hens bats have warmed up the past four games, exploding for 19 extra-base hits in the four games including three homers. Delaware has scored at least seven runs in four consecutive games (all wins) and recorded at least nine hits over that span.

• GOING STREAKING: Delaware has now won a season-best four games in a row. Over the four-game winning streak, the Hens have received timely hitting as well as strong pitching. Delaware has allowed just eight earned runs over the four-game span (2.00 ERA), and just three earned runs in the last three games (1.00 ERA). At the plate, Blue Hens batters are hitting .356 (42-for-132) during the four-game winning streak and have recorded double-digit hits in three out the last four.
