NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware volleyball team took the third set but could not pull off the comeback victory as the Blue Hens fell to Towson, 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21), Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Towson improved to 18-3 overall and 4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Blue Hens dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-6 in league play.

UD outside hitter Maria Bellinger (left) again paced the Blue Hens with 15 kills and tied for the team lead with eight digs, while Bailey Pearlman added 11 kills and Daria Robinson contributed nine of her own. Courtnie Roberts (below) handed out 22 assists on the night, Abby Skryd added 18 assists, and Julia Hayes posted seven blocks.

Jocelyn Kuilan slammed 13 kills for the Tigers, while Anna Holehouse posted 19 digs.

Delaware won the opening point in each of the first two sets, but Towson never trailed after that in either stanza while taking a two-set lead. However the Blue Hens responded in the third set, sealing the set victory on a Bellinger kill and a Tigers attack error, to get on the board.

The fourth set was also extremely close and featured 10 ties, but after the teams were knotted at 18-18, Towson captured the next five points to pull away.

• Bellinger notched her eighth match of at least 15 kills
• Pearlman reached double figure kills for the third time this year
• Roberts surpassed the 20-assists mark for the sixth time on the season
Maddie Judge tied for the team lead with eight digs
