KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kay Hawes as director of marketing and public relations. Hawes brings extensive experience in public relations and marketing in intercollegiate athletics, with more than 15 years working for and with sports associations.

"Her background in intercollegiate athletics and working for associations, along with her passion for advancing character-driven intercollegiate athletics makes her an ideal fit for the NAIA."
Hawes' responsibilities will include building strategic alliances with national, regional and local media as well as handling media inquiries regarding the Association. Hawes also will be managing projects building the NAIA brand and will work to form relationships and partnerships to increase awareness of the NAIA and the NAIA Eligibility Center.
Hawes began her career as a writer and associate editor at the National Collegiate Athletic Association's flagship publication at the time, The NCAA News. Her career has included experience as associate director of public relations at NCAA, director of media relations for the National Center for Drug Free Sport, and public relations manager for Cerner Corp. Hawes also is a certified association executive and has served as a media and marketing consultant for numerous sports associations and small businesses. Hawes also is an adjunct professor in Ohio University's sport management program.
A native Kansan, Hawes has a Master of Science degree in journalism and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Kansas.
