ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico softball team garnered two All-Mountain West honors, as the conference named Brandi Heimburg to first team and Mariah Rimmer to second team. The Mountain West announced the teams Tuesday morning.
"Brandi and Mariah are both incredible representatives for our program on the all-conference teams," said head coach Erica Beach. "They were dangerous hitters to face and lead this team through the conference season. We are all so proud of their accomplishments."
Heimburg, who was selected to the All-Mountain West squad last season, led the squad in conference action with a .427 batting average, which is ranked seventh among the Mountain West. She started all 24 games in right field and had a total of 32 hits, including five doubles, a triple and home run for seven RBIs. She only struck out three times in 75 at-bats.
The Phoenix, Arizona native led the squad with 11 walks, had a slugging percentage of .560 and an on-base percentage of .506 (ranked eighth in the MW). In 29 chances, she only record two errors for a .931 fielding percentage.
Rimmer finished third on the team with a .338 batting average in conference play. She started all 24 games in center field for the Lobos and collected 25 hits, including four doubles and four home runs. She finished conference action with a .554 slugging percentage and a .414 on-base percentage.
The junior finished ranked tied for fifth in the Mountain West with six stolen bases. On defense, Rimmer had only one error in 43 chances for a .977 fielding percentage.
The Lobos finished in fourth place with a 13-11 conference record which is the second most Mountain West wins in program history. The fourth place finish in the highest finish in conference since the 2007 season when the Mountain West housed just six teams.
