Wichita State Sweeps North Dakota State; Whalen Named All-Tournament

DeKALB, Ill. - Wichita State hit .353 as a team to beat North Dakota State 25-18, 25-16, 25-23 in the final match of the Northern Illinois Invitational women's volleyball tournament Sunday, Aug. 26.
Freshman outside hitter Jenni Fassbender hit .429 with 11 kills for NDSU (0-3). Sophomore middle hitter Carissa Whalen was the only Bison player named to the all-tournament team after hitting a team-best .388 with 11 blocks for the weekend.
Ashley Andrade hit .421 with 11 kills for Wichita State (2-1), which trailed only once after the opening point of the second set. Emily Adney added 10 kills for the Shockers.
Catherine Yager had 22 assists and Andrea Henning made 15 digs for NDSU, which has lost its first three matches for the first time since 2005. Brynn Joki had eight kills and Whalen had four kills with no errors in nine attacks.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Air Force, Oklahoma and Northern Colorado next Friday, Aug. 31, and Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Hampton Inn and Suites Northern Colorado Classic.
