NDSU Men Set Two School Records on Final Day of Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - The North Dakota State distance medley relay team broke a 33-year-old school record on the final day of competition at the Drake Relays Saturday, April 28. The shuttle hurdle relay team also set a new school record Saturday.

The distance medley relay team of Moses Heppner, Jason Duchscherer, Alec Espeland and Travis Fitzke took sixth in a time of 9 minutes 41.85 seconds, breaking the 1979 record of 9:43.65 set by Mike Bollman, Kevin Donnalley, Rick Paal and Curt Bacon. Heppner opened with the 1,200 meter leg and handed off to Duchscherer for the 400 meter leg. Espeland ran the 800 meter leg and Fitzke ran the 1,600 meter anchor leg.

The 110 meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Jerome Begin, Matt Tetzlaff, Parker McKittrick and Weston Leutz finished second in a time of 58.05 seconds, breaking the previous NDSU record of 59.78 seconds set at the Drake Relays in 2010.

The sprint medley relay team of Lee Dhein, McKittrick, Nate Mattson and Tyler Leverington finished 14th in 3:31.79. Casey Orgon fouled on all three of his attempts in the hammer throw.

The Bison will host the NDSU vs. UND Dual Friday, May 4 at the Ellig Sports Complex. NDSU will also play host to The Summit League Championships May 10-12.
