ABCA Names Sherer Best 1B in Atlantic Region

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte baseball’s Logan Sherer has been named first team ABCA/Rawlings all-Atlantic Region in an announcement late Wednesday afternoon. Sherer was named the best first baseman in the region that included nominees for the best division one players in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. All first-team selections, including Sherer, will now move to the national All-America ballot to be announced on Saturday.

Sherer shattered his personal record book in 2016 hitting .336 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI. Named to Conference USA’s second team, Sherer finished second in the league for slugging percentage (.574), home runs (12) and RBI (52), third in total bases (128), fourth in runs scored (48), 10th in average and hits (75).

The junior, who started all 55 games this season, 54 at first base, is also up for a national Gold Glove award presented by the ABCA/Rawlings after recording a stellar .997 fielding percentage at first base by committing just two errors in 579 chances.

The region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process in led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee. The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
