TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Seth Gandy, representing Charlotte golf at the 2016 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, carded an opening round 72 during round one played on Monday. Gandy sits tied for 13th after day one just four shots off the lead at the Ol’ Colony Golf Course measuring 7,514 yards of par 72 golf.
“Today was a good, solid start for Seth,” remarked Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “He played well all day.”
Gandy began his day with three-straight pars including one on the par-five third measuring 578 yards. After dropping his first shot of the day with a bogey on the par-three fourth, the lefty got the stroke right back with a birdie three on five to carry his even par status through eight holes. Gandy’s shot of the day came on the par-four ninth as he holed out from the fairway for an eagle two ending his front nine at two-under 34.
Gandy carried that two-under number after pars on 10 and 11 but lost them both on the par-three 12th to get back to even on the day. His final birdie of the day came on the par-five 14th before he dropped his final shot on the par-three 17th. Gandy struggled with the four par three’s on Monday playing those at four-over.
“Seth had a couple of little hiccups on the par three’s and left a few out there on a couple of the easier holes,” finished Cabbage. “But, all in all, it was a good day. He’s in a good spot and is excited to get back out there tomorrow.”
Gandy will begin round two at 11:23 a.m. eastern on Tuesday going off of hole #10. Live scoring will be available at http://www.charlotte49ers.com.
