Charlotte 49ers safety Branden Dozier has been invited to participate in the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie minicamp, which runs May 6-9.
Dozier, who finished his two-year career with 49ers' single-season school records of 86 tackles, 52 solo tackles and 11 pass breakups in 2014, becomes the third 49ers invited to an NFL minicamp. Last year, OL Daniel Blitch (Carolina Panthers) and S Desmond Cooper (Jacksonville Jaguars) were both invited to NFL minicamps. Cooper became the first 49er to sign an NFL contract when he was inked by the Jaguars following the camp. He remained with the club through the bulk of the 2015 preseason.
Dozier holds the 49ers' single-game record with 4 PBU at Campbell and the career mark with 13 PBU. He was the 49ers leading tackler as a junior and finished his career ranked fourth in tackles with 135 despite playing just two seasons after transferring from Butler Community College. He became first 49er to record TDs on a fumble and INT return in the same season and ranks fourth all-time with four career takeaways (2 INT; 2 FR). He also owns the 49ers record with two takeaways returned for TD.
In 2015, the 49ers first at the FBS level, he started 8 of 11 games played, missing some action due to injury. He was seventh on the team with 49 tackles and had a high of 13 tackles (7 solo) vs. Temple, which is the second-most by a 49er in an FBS game.
