CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte women’s soccer has compiled a nine-player recruiting class composed of eight from North Carolina and one from Sweden, as announced by head coach John Cullen Tuesday. The nine signees have completed their paperwork to join the 49ers program beginning in the fall.
“The result of what we’ve added in this recruiting class is people who are used to winning games,” Cullen noted. “We have back-to-back state champions, we have current state champions, we have players who have played on national team levels and have played high level of minutes for their club teams. We wanted players who have been used to winning, used to scoring goals and a threat to scoring goals. What we’ve added, in particular, at the midfield and attack is a real balanced attack that will help a bunch of our current players. The more striking options you have, the better. You can never have enough people that can score goals.”
“We wanted to be very much so in the discussion of attracting the best players across the state. This time, we have [been successful in own backyard]. We actively worked on building a relationship with these players, with their clubs and seen them numerous times over the years. They are all high-character people, coming from good club backgrounds and good school programs. They’ve all been well coached. North Carolina is getting better and better across the board with youth soccer and we obviously wanted to be in that discussion, attracting the best players in the state. We feel very much that we’ve been able to accomplish that with this recruiting class.”
