Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team, winners of six straight, will look to strengthen its grip on second place when it hosts Northeastern this weekend in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series. The Huskies are currently in 10th place in the CAA standings.

Hofstra (26-17, 14-7 CAA) is up two games in the loss column over third-place George Mason (15-9 CAA). The Pride, which has already set a program record for most games won in the CAA, need just one win to tie the overall program record for victories in a season, which was set in 1995.

The Pride is coming off a 7-0 win at Rutgers Tuesday, establishing a new program mark for shutouts in a season with four. Starter Nick Kozlowski and relievers Brett Schreiber and Dave Jesch scattered 11 hits in blanking the Scarlet Knights. Matt Reistetter had three RBIs in the contest.

The Pride boast seven starters that are batting over .315 led by Danny Poma's .443 average. Jared Hammer has a team-high 55 RBIs to go along with a .401 average. Matt Ford is batting .384 with 37 runs scored and 37 RBIs.

Northeastern (17-23, 7-14) enters the weekend having lost two straight non-conference games (Boston College and Massachusetts) after sweeping Towson last weekend. Aaron Barbosa leads the Huskies with a .345 average, four triples and 12 stolen bases.

Northeastern holds a 25-15 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools. Since Northeastern joined the CAA in 2006, the series is tied, 9-9. Northeastern swept Hofstra in Brookline, Massachusetts, last season, shutting the Pride out in all three games. The Pride swept the Huskies on the road in 2010.

Joe Burg (4-0) will start the opener for the Pride, after rejoining the rotation last weekend at Delaware and firing five shutout innings in Friday's 16-1 win. He will be opposed by Andrew Leenhouts (4-3). John Tiedemann (5-3) will get the ball Saturday afternoon against Nick Berger (3-3). Jesch (4-0) will start the finale Sunday against reigning CAA Pitcher of the Week Kevin Ferguson (5-3). Ferguson threw a 1-hit shutout against Towson in his last start.
