Hempstead, NY - Hofstra junior wrestler Justin Accordino has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 18.

Accordino, a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, earned his first All-America honor by placing sixth at 149 pounds at the 2012 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Missouri last week. The Coughlin High School graduate posted a 3-3 record in the national championships and recorded two upset victories over top 12 wrestlers in the tournament.

Accordino opened the NCAA Championships with an 8-4 decision over Purdue's 12th-seeded Ivan Lopouchanski. In the second round, he defeated Kent State's fifth-seeded Ian Miller by fall in 3:33. Accordino would then defeat unseeded Nick Lester from Oklahoma, 11-3 in the quarterfinals. Lester would also earn All-American honors by placing eighth.

Eventual national champion, top-seed and undefeated Frank Molinaro from Penn State would hand Accordino his first loss (5-0) of the tournament in the semifinals. Accordino, who was unseeded in the Championships, would drop a 9-5 decision to Ohio State's Cam Tessari in the consolation semifinals before falling to Pittsburgh's sixth-seeded Tyler Nauman, 4-3 in the fifth place match.

Accordino, who missed most of the past two seasons with two separate knee injuries, closed out his season with a 26-14 record.
