Hempstead, NY - Hofstra red-shirt sophomore Jamie Franco has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 4.

Franco, a native of Monroe, New York and a graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, earned his first NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship berth by placing second at 133 pounds in the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Wrestling Championships in Binghamton, New York Saturday night.

A three-seed entering the conference championship, Franco posted a 2-1 record in the tournament, losing to Old Dominion's Scott Festejo in the championship match. Franco opened the championship with a 6-4 victory in the first tie-breaker over Binghamton's Patrick Hunter in the quarterfinals, and then defeated second-seed Fred Santaite from Boston University, 2-0 in the semifinals.

Franco enters the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri on March 15-17 with a 21-11 record and having won six of his last eight matches.
