Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women’s Basketball team will look to solidify its seeding in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship when it travels to Northeastern for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
Hofstra (19-9, 11-6 CAA) would clinch the three seed in the tournament with a win based on its season sweep of Drexel.
The Pride will be looking for its 20th win of the season against Northeastern, which battled the Pride back on January 22 before falling 72-66. Hofstra has won 20 games just three times during its NCAA Division I era (since 1982-83).
Hofstra and Northeastern will be meeting for the 29th time on Wednesday, with the Huskies holding a narrow 15-13 advantage in the series. Since both schools became members of the Colonial Athletic Association, Hofstra owns a 9-4 lead in the series. Hofstra has won four straight in series, including the 72-66 win in Hempstead back on January 22.
In its home finale on Sunday, Hofstra pulled away in the second half for a 66-55 win over UNC Wilmington. Junior forward Shante Evans led Hofstra with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while senior center Marie Malone had a strong game with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Northeastern is 7-21 overall and 5-12 in conference action entering tomorrow’s game. Deanna Kerkhof leads the Huskies with 15 points per game, while Jewel Tunstull is second with 12.8 points and leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per game.
