No. 41 Saint Mary's fell to 14-7 this season, while No. 71 San Diego improved to 12-9 and advanced to the WCC Finals tomorrow against Pepperdine.
Saint Mary's jumped on top with two comeback doubles wins on courts two and three. Anna Chkhikvishvili and Catherine Isip improved to 8-2 this season with an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot over Maja Sujica and Anna Depenau. Freshman Elizabeth Searl and senior Molly Aloia teamed up on court three to clinch the point for the Gaels with a tight 9-8 win over Stephanie Hoffpauir and Cara Brown.
After the Toreros earned a quick singles win on court three to tie the match up, No. 105 Isip put the Gaels back up with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Hoffpauir on court two.
The Toreros earned their first lead of the match with close three set wins on courts one and five to give USD a 3-2 advantage.
The match came down to a pair of three-set battles on courts four and six. San Diego claimed the match when No. 112 Depenau earned a close 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 win on court four.
The Gaels will now wait to hear their post-season fate on Tuesday, May 1 when NCAA.com hosts the NCAA Selection Show at 2 p.m.
