Media Relations Intern

 

Responsibilities: The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) seeks qualified candidates to fill the position of Media Relations Intern. The position will report directly to the Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations. The Media Relations Intern will assist with the overall management of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Media Relations department. Responsibilities range from writing, editing and design of athletic publications, press releases and web pages to game management and statistical compilation at conference championships. Must possess a positive attitude and be able to multitask efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities to include but are not limited to:

1. Update and manage conference athletic and social media websites

2. Assist in the production of publications: media guides, weekly notes, promotional flyers, etc.
3. Assist in writing and distribution of press releases, feature stories and result reporting for applicable sports.
4. Maintain informative and accurate records as well as an organized filing system for designated areas of responsibility. Includes: news clippings, web searches and record keeping.
5. Assist with general office work; filing, mailing, correspondence.

6. Any additional duties as assigned by the Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations

Required Qualifications

1. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree (required).

2. Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills

3. Demonstrated knowledge of necessary computer applications to successfully execute responsibilities

4. Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays, non-traditional hours

5. Willingness to travel to conference sponsored events

About the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is in its 46th year of operation heading into the 2015-16 academic school year. Housed in Norfolk, Virginia, the MEAC is made up of 13 outstanding historically black institution across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, Savannah State University and South Carolina State University.


 


Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships Intern

Purpose of the Job:
To assist the Director of Championships and his staff with the day-to-day operations of the department as well as with preparations for special events and championships.


The duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
            -event management
            -marketing and promotions
            -production of marketing materials
            -distribution of facility information

Duties to include:

1. Disseminating pre-championship information to teams.
2. Disseminating pre-championship information to Staff.
3. Assisting with tournament registration and coaches meetings.
4. Oversee volunteers.
5. Assisting with overseeing the championship section of the website.                                                       
6. Assist director with awards ceremony.
7. Assist director with post tournament team evaluations.
8. Assist director with post tournament reports.
9. Manage and assist with championship publications.
10. Assist director with overseeing Hall of Fame Ceremony.
11. Responsible for ordering and disseminating team gifts and awards.  

Requirements
- Positive and energetic team player with the ability to work independently
- Interested in pursuing a career in athletics
- Working knowledge of word, excel and internet
- Outgoing individual with outstanding customer relations skills
- Strong work ethic
- Currently pursuing a bachelors degree (minimum)

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Compliance Internship  

Position Overview
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) offers a position for a Compliance Intern to support the Compliance Office.

Organization Description
The MEAC is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I conference, made up of 13 (thirteen) outstanding historically black institutions across the Atlantic Coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University,  North Carolina Central University, Savannah State University, and South Carolina State University.

Job Description

The Compliance Intern Shall:
1. Prepare compliance related reports
2. Process entry/event entry forms for championships
3. Maintain and file compliance related forms
4. Accurately review and track conference official certification, NCAA squad lists and weekly participation rosters and notify memberships of missing information
5. Track NCAA waivers and violations to prepare mid-year and final reports
6. Assist with the coordination of Cheerleading Championship
7. Assist with the MEAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
8. Assist with updating of MEAC SAAC and Compliance Websites
9. Develop/revise conference compliance forms and prepare materials for meetings
10. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for Compliance & Championships and Assistant Commissioner for Administration & Compliance

 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Corporate Partnership & Marketing Internship

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is accepting applications for a Marketing Intern to support the Corporate Partnership & Marketing Department.

Responsibilities: The intern will assist with the overall management of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Marketing Department. Responsibilities range from identifying and researching prospective partners, writing, editing, designing marketing materials for MEAC Championships and events, maintaining the conference's social media aspects, performing weekly in-office duties, and assisting with the front desk staff in specific situations.

Requirements: Students in business, sports management, communications or marketing with knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook), Adobe, Photoshop, In-Design, and Acrobat preferred. The selected candidate must be able to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; have the ability to work under deadlines. Applicants should be detail oriented, organized, have good communication skills, a positive attitude, and a high level of professionalism.
