Two Broncs Honored by

LAWRENCEVILLE--Senior pitcher Rachael Matreale and freshman infielder Allysen Breeden of the Rider University softball team were honored by the website for their accomplishments during the 2012 season.

Matreale and Breeden were both named to the First Team Madness 2012 MAAC All-Conference squad.

Matreale (Williamstown), a four-time MAAC Pitcher of the Week, won 17 games for Rider (20-33-1, 7-9 MAAC) this season, compiling a 2.04 earned run average as Rider had an 11 win improvement over 2011.

Matreale compiled 215 strikeouts in 226 innings, making 35 appearances.

Matreale's win total leads the MAAC and is 89th in the nation, her earned run average is 97th nationally (third in the MAAC) and her strikeouts per inning are 110th in the most recent NCAA statistics.

A veteran of 121 games, Matreale graduates with 596 strikeouts, second best all-time at Rider.

Breeden (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree, played in all 54 games this season, batting .277 while leading the Broncs in RBIs (27), doubles (8), home runs (3) and walks (14). 

Breeden scored 14 runs and her 46 hits were tied for second best on the team.

Breeden had a fielding percentage of .962, making only five errors all season.

Rider returns 14 letterwinners for the 2013 season.
