Rider's Cottam Named Academic All-America

LAWRENCEVILLE-Rider University junior Abi Cottam has been named to the First Team CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America.

Cottam is the first Rider Bronc to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since baseball player Jason Koehler in 1995.

"What a great honor," said Rider head soccer coach Drayson Hounsome. "Abi is an outstanding student-athlete so it is fantastic for her, our soccer program and Rider athletics for her to be honored as an Academic All-American. Her success on and off the field sets a high standard for all our players to strive towards."

A junior from Leominster, England, Cottam owns a 4.0 grade point average as a Psychology major.

On the soccer field, Cottam ranks sixth in the nation in points per game, eighth in the nation in assists per game and 15th in goals per game.

Cottam was named to the First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference soccer team and to the MAAC All-Academic team.

Cottam led the MAAC in goals (14), assists (11) and points (39) this season, leading Rider to its best record (9-6-4) since 2004.

In 45 career games, Cottam has compiled 22 goals and 19 assists for 63 points. Her point total is fourth most ever at Rider, as is her total of goals, while her assist total is just one shy of the Rider career record.

Cottam was also named to the NSCAA Women's University Scholar All-East Team.
