WG Preview: Sir Pizza Cards Challenge

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's golf team opens the spring portion of its 2011-12 schedule with an appearance in the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge at the Weston Hills Golf Club.
The 54-hole event will take place on Feb. 27-28 with the opening 36 holes on Monday and the final round taking place on Tuesday. Live stats for all three rounds will be available and can be accessed by clicking on the live stats link at the top of the page.
The five-count-four stroke-play event will feature a total of 14 teams as the Seahawks will join a field that features six teams - North Carolina State (23), Louisville (50), Texas State (52), South Florida (58) Florida International (60) and East Tennessee State (62) - ranked in the top 65 of the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Team rankings.
Cincinnati, Kansas, Miami, Memphis, Missouri, Southern Mississippi and fellow Colonial Athletic Association program Delaware, who is in its first season of collegiate competition, round out the tournament field.
Senior Sofia Hagsund and sophomores Lori Beth Adams and Laverry Kumar, who appeared in all four events in the fall, will make their respective spring debuts in the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge. Senior Alei Mitchell and sophomore Jeanne Metivier, who both participated in three tournaments in the fall, will complete the Seahawks five-player entry. Freshman Mallory Warrick will take part in her first collegiate tournament as an individual entry.
Hagsund paced the Seahawks in the fall with a 75.58 stroke average in 12 rounds while Kumar fashioned a 76.58 stroke average and led the squad with two top-10 finishes in four events, highlighted by a tie for at the ECU Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in October.
UNCW returns to action March 9-11 when it takes part in the LSU Tiger Classic at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
