What is S.A.A.C.?

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) consists of representatives from each intercollegiate athletic team at NM State. The committee members are selected by their teammates and/or coach. Regular meetings every other week consist of discussions on any new developments with the NCAA, Western Athletic Conference and NM State that affects student-athletes.

The Committee also serves as a liaison between athletics administrators and student-athletes. Representatives from the Committee attend one to two Western Athletic Conference S.A.A.C. meeting each academic year, and one student-athlete is selected to attend the National Student-Athlete Development Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. At least once per semester, the Committee also meets with the Athletics Council to discuss pertinent academic/student-athlete issues on the NM State campus.

The NM State S.A.A.C. has been influential on the NM State campus in various ways to help student-athletes, such as initiating the university excused absence policy that was passed in 1998, and participating in university & community service projects;
