KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Men's Soccer team lost a tough-fought game against non-conference opponent Oral Roberts 2-1 tonight in Tulsa, Okla. The Roos move to 0-1-0 on the season.
"I'm very proud of the guy's work tonight in this tough, competitive game," said head coach Rick Benben. "Our new guys got a ton of great experience."
The Roos started the game with six freshman, as the team was without two of their senior's Antoine Precheur and Alvaro Hernando. The game was a very physical one from the start. The teams combined for a total of 28 fouls and five yellow cards issued.
The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard early in the 18th minute, as F Dante Brigida found some space in the box and put it past GK Filippo Errico for the 1-0 lead.
The Roos responded with a goal of their own in the 27th minute. Kevin Komodi was fouled in the box on the attack to set up a PK. Sophomore MF David Ray-Campoy stepped up and buried the PK in the bottom right corner of the net to tie the game 1-1. This was Ray-Campoy's first goal of the young season.
Kansas City had a great chance to take the lead in to halftime with a PK. Kevin Komodi took the PK for the Roos, but Oral Roberts GK made a terrific read and save to keep the game locked up at 1-1.
Oral Roberts F Dante Brigida scored his second goal on the night in the 55th minute, what would end up being the Golden Eagles game winning goal.
"We have a lot of positives to take out of this game and as Antoine (Precheur) and Alvaro (Hernando) come back to us for the weekend, it gives us a good boost," said head coach Rick Benben.
