MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The UMKC softball team (3-10) was unable to claim a win their second matchup with Bradley in as many days, falling to the Braves by a final score of 9-2 on Saturday morning.
Senior pitcher Sara Miller (Marietta, Ga.) made her second start of the season in the circle for the Roos, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work in trying to shut down a powerful Bradley offense. After a strong first three frames, Miller ran into trouble in the fourth which resulted in a three-run inning for the Braves.
Bradley starting pitcher Megan Mahaffy kept the UMKC offense at bay throughout the game, finishing with two runs allowed on seven hits to pair with four strikeouts in her complete game effort. Junior infielder Morgan Byrn (Lawrence, Kan.) found success against Mahaffy, picking up a pair of hits on the game for her third consecutive multi-hit contest.
With UMKC trailing 5-0 in the top of the fifth, Olivia Fluehr (Loves Park, Ill.) a two-out single that drove in a pair of runs, now up to a team-high 14 RBI’s on the season, to cut into the deficit. The team was unable to generate any further damage as Bradley extended their lead in route to a 9-2 victory. Alyx Bloom (Clay Center, Kan.) joined Byrn in putting together a multi-hit game, finishing 2 for 3 on the day.
The Roos have scheduled games with UL Monroe and Memphis on Sunday, Mar. 4 at 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. CT to close out the Blues City Classic.
