Berry Earns Second SoCon Student-Athlete Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga track and field athlete Chris Berry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.

The senior earned a top 40 national ranking from the USTFCCCA following his ninth-place finish in the 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational Friday night.

Berry, a native of Murfeesboro, Tenn., finished with a time of 29:19.72, shattering a 14-year-old school record by nearly a minute.

With his performance, Berry ranks third in the NCAA South Region and earned an automatic qualification for the NCAA East Region meet.

Berry maintains a 4.0 GPA in Chattanooga's MBA program.

Also nominated this week Appalachian State men's tennis player Alain Humblet, College of Charleston men's tennis player Michael Trintignac, UNCG track athlete Ashley Schnell and Wofford baseball player Brandon Yarusi.
