The Penn Relays

From Franklin Field to London 2012

USA Track & Field Olympic information

PHILADELPHIA (Bertucci) - Team USA will have, as usual, a heavy Penn Relays representation as it heads to London for the 2012 Olympic Games. Twenty-two athletes, 14 men and eight women, who competed at Franklin Field this year are listed on the American roster for the track & field competition which gets underway on August 3.

The majority comes from the USA vs. the World relays, but two collegians, Donn Cabral from Princeton and Texas' Marquise Goodwin, are also included.

Cabral, the anchor for the Tigers' winning distance medley and 4xmile relays, will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Goodwin, winner of the collegiate long jump championship at the last two Relays, will compete in his specialty in London.

The other men, with their Olympic and Penn Relays events, are:
*Ryan Bailey, 100 meters, USA Blue 4x100 relay
*Justin Gatlin, 100 meters, USA Red 4x100
*Trell Kimmons, relay pool, USA Blue 4x100
*Bernard Legat, 5000 meters, USA Red distance medley, 1500-meter leg
*Leonel Manzano, 1500 meters, USA Blue distance medley, 1500-meter leg
*LaShawn Merritt, 400 meters, USA Red 4x400
*Manteo Mitchell, relay pool, USA Blue 4x100
*Darvis "Doc" Patton, relay pool, USA Red 4x100
*Khadevis Robinson, 800 meters, USA Blue distance medley, 800-meter leg
*Mike Rodgers, relay pool, USA Red 4x100
*Nick Symmonds, 800 meters, USA Red distance medley, 800-meter leg
*Angelo Taylor, 400 hurdles, USA Red 4x400

The women:
*Allyson Felix, 100/200 meters, USA Red 4x100/4x400 relays
*Carmelita Jeter, 100/200 meters, USA Red 4x100
*Bianca Knight, relay pool, USA Red 4x100
*Tianna Madison, 100 meters, USA Red 4x100
*Francena McCorory, 400 meters, USA Red 4x400
*Sanya Richards-Ross, 200/400 meters, USA Red 4x400
*Jeneba Tarmoh, relay pool, USA Red sprint medley, 200-meter leg
*Dee Dee Trotter, 400 meters, USA Blue 4x400

This represents Americans only. When you consider that 20 other countries had relay teams in the USA vs. the World events, the number of athletes who have gone from Franklin Field to London should be well over 100.

The Penn Relays has been represented by gold-medal winners at every Summer Olympics except for the boycotted 1980 Games. Expect that total to be updated during the next few weeks.
