The College of Charleston Cougars will be playing their 22nd season at the John Kresse Arena in the F. Mitchell Johnson Physical Education Center. The $5.4 million facility opened on Aug. 30, 1982, and the Kresse Arena was dedicated on Dec. 15, 1994.

The 95,200 square foot brick veneer building houses the physical education and athletic facilities. It contains offices, classrooms, laboratories, a training room, weight rooms, eight racquetball courts, volleyball and badminton courts, men’s and women’s locker rooms and observation gallery. The basketball arena seats 3,500 spectators. The basketball court is made of hardwood maple. The College of Charleston installed a new portable floor before the 2002-03 season.

The arena is named after Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Kresse. Kresse has led the Cougars to four NCAA tournaments and two National Invitational Tournaments. Kresse also led CofC to the 1983 NAIA National Championship.
