We are excited about your interest in the program. James Madison Football is one of the finest football programs in the nation. With each season, the program builds upon a tradition of excellence on and off the field. Years of hard work finally paid off in 2004 when the Dukes captured the first-ever National Championship with the win over the University of Montana in Chattanooga, Tenn. The goals are always the same here every year -- winning the CAA Football Conference and National Championship.
Everything about JMU Football is first class. The coaches, facilities, academic support, strength and conditioning, and the sports medicine are the top of the line. In the spring of 2005, the program moved into the Robert and Frances Plecker Athletic Performance Center. It is a 10-million dollar facility that houses the coaches offices, locker room, weight room, training room, and also our academic services. With all these housed under the same roof, the program has taken the next step to greatness. Most importantly, the classroom performance has been greatly improved with the aid of the Challace McMillin Academic Center.
Our biggest selling point is the University itself and its academics. JMU is highly rated nationally and is considered one of the top schools in the nation at our level. If you come to JMU you will be rewarded with a degree that is highly respected all throughout the nation. JMU is growing each year, in numbers and in reputation. Be assured that if you play for here, academics are the #1-stressed aspect of our program. STUDENT comes first in “student-athlete.”
Even though this is only our fourth decade of playing football at JMU, there is a great tradition that is based on excellence and strong values. We only want young men that want to help add to the legacy that is wearing a Gold Helmet. I hope you will visit the program on campus and see what being a Duke is all about!
