GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota senior Molli Detloff has been named Big Sky Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week and freshman Seyi Aguda has been named the Big Sky’s Male Track Athlete of the Week following their performances last Friday at the SDSU Holiday Open in Brookings.
Detloff, a returning All-America thrower, was the runner-up in the weight throw at SDSU with a mark of 64 feet, 3 ¾ inches (19.60). The Elk River, Minn., native came up just shy of her school record of 65-00.5 that she set while at the 2016 conference championship.
Aguda, running in his first collegiate meet, made an immediate impact in a pair of races on Friday and cracked UND’s all-time top 10 in both. The freshman from Burnsville, Minn., was the runner-up in the 200 meters with a time of 21.96 seconds that was the second-fastest in school history, topped by Norm McGee’s school-record 21.66 in 1989.
Aguda also tied for the ninth-fastest 60-meter time in UND history, clocking in at 7.03 seconds.
Detoff, Aguda and the Fighting Hawks continue their pre-Christmas portion of the indoor schedule with the UND Inter-squad meet on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the UND Athletics High Performance Center. UND will ring in the New Year following the Christmas break when it competes in the Bison Classic in Fargo on Jan. 13.
