GRAND FORKS, N.D. – For the third time in the past five weeks, University of North Dakota freshman forward Grant Mismash has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week.
Mismash totaled a goal and two assists on the weekend as UND took five of six NCHC points from Miami with a 4-1 win on Friday and a 3-3 overtime tie with a shootout win on Saturday. The Edina, Minn., native assisted on Nick Jones’ goal late in the second period Friday to give UND a 3-0 lead, then later rounded out the scoring with his fourth goal of the season midway through the third period. On Saturday, Mismash assisted on Shane Gerisch’s go-ahead goal late in the third period, putting the Fighting Hawks ahead briefly at 3-2.
Mismash, finished the series with a plus-3 rating and five shots on goal. In 11 points this season, the Nashville Predators’ draft pack leads all NCHC freshmen with a team-leading 11 points. He also leads the Fighting Hawks in plus/minus (+7) and shares the team lead with seven assists.
Colorado College’s Mason Bergh (Offensive), Denver’s Adam Plant (Defenseman) and Western Michigan’s Ben Blacker (Goaltender) were the NCHC’s other award winners this week.
Mismash and the Fighting Hawks travel to Denver this week to face the top-ranked Pioneers on Friday and Saturday at Magness Arena.
