AMES, Iowa - - The University of North Dakota cross country team closed its season today after competing at the NCAA West Regional Championship.
Senior Cataldo DiDonna has led the way for UND all season long and today was no different. The Bismarck, N.D., native clocked a time of 30 minutes, 42.8 seconds in the 10k. This was a personal best for DiDonna. His previous best 10k mark came at the 2016 NCAA West Regional meet where he clocked a time of 33:03.
Finishing second for the UND men was Scott Kvidera. He also earned a personal best mark with a time of 31:21.8, besting his previous regional time of 32:57, which he set in 2015.
“This was a really good way for our seniors to finish out their careers,” said head coach Dick Clay. “They had significant personal bests and that is always awesome to see.”
Also earning a new personal record was sophomore Jacob Henne. Last year his regional time was 34:28. Today, he finished with a time of 31:43.1.
“On the guys side we had two of our top-five runners not compete,” said Clay. “That hurt our score a little bit, but overall we ran a really competitive race.”
The women’s side was led by sophomore Hannah Oscarson. She bested her previous regional time of 22:51 by clocking a finish of 22:14.
“To see a sophomore and two freshmen in our top-three is promising,” said Clay. “For the freshmen running their first ever 6k they ran competitively and left everything out there.”
“Overall this meet was a good ending place for this season,” said Clay. “It’s also a great starting place for the next season.”
