UND adds three Minnesotans in early signing period

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Travis Brewster announced the signing of three athletes to National Letters of Intent during the first day of the early signing period. All three Minnesota products will continue their academic and basketball careers at UND beginning in the Fall of 2018.

Rachel Garvey, Guard, Shakopee, Minn.
*Played with the Minnesota Fury in AAU ball.
*Averaged 8.2 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game with the Fury in 2016.
Coach says:
"She has a great feel for the game and has a high skill set, and is savvy on the floor. We're excited to bring this type of player in and see what she can do. I like that’s she's a student of the game."

Claire Orth, Guard, Circle Pines, Minn.
*Averaged 10 points and two assists per game for the section runners-up.
*Also played for the Minnesota Stars AAU team.
*Member of Centennial High School's state champion soccer program.
Coach says:
"She has a hard-nosed approach to the game with a tremendous work ethic, blinding speed with ridiculous acceleration. She has a big-time passion to compete on both ends of the floor with great basketball IQ. I really like her toughness."

Taihna Nicholson, Center, Thief River Falls, Minn.
*Averaged 17.4 points and 12.0 rebounds last season.
*Already over 1,000 points in her prep career.
*All-tournament at state as a sophomore as Prowlers took third.
Coach says:
"Great upside. She moves well and has good hands. There is some developing to do, and we pride ourselves on developing people and student-athletes. She has a passion about the University of North Dakota and the women's basketball program already, I really like that."

"The staff worked hard to get these ladies as well as our players did a great in conveying the pride and tradition of University of North Dakota women’s basketball program," Brewster added.
