BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSUB Director of swimming and diving Chris Hansen has released the schedule and roster for the Roadrunners 2012-13 men’s season with action getting underway Oct. 20 at the Hillman Aquatics Center, when the Roadrunners host Seattle University.

The Roadrunners will have five home events this season, three of which take place in the first three weeks of the season. CSUB will also participate in marquee events on the road including the Triton Classic November 15-17 in Long Beach and a meet against two-time defending National Champion Cal on Feb. 7 in Berkeley, Calif.

We are pumped to get this season moving, We added Arizona State, UC Santa Barbara and UNLV to the schedule, all three among the best in the country not to mention Cal the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Champions,” Hansen said.

The ‘Runners will once again compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship meet Feb. 20-23 in Long Beach. CSUB won the conference championship in 2011.

“The MPSF is going to be a battle again this year among UNLV, Wyoming, BYU, Hawaii and ourselves and we are ready for the fight,” Hansen said.

The Roadrunners will have a team in the pool that includes a recruiting class that was recently ranked 55th by CollegeSwimming.com. Eight newcomers to the team were also ranked among the top-500 in the United States.

“We are going to be a very young team and we need to rebuild in some areas but I think this is the team to rebuild with,” Hansen said. “I think you will see returners like Mitch Wurm, Mitchell Huxhold and others take big leaps this year and shock a lot of people. My prediction is that we will be at the NCAA Championships this year.”

CSUB will have 27 swimmers on the roster this season with key returners like Wurm, Huxhold, Dan Wickensheimer, Alex Daneke, Gabriel Bertrand and 2011 MPSF MVP Jake Priest.
