Kevin Leatherwood came to Georgia State to join Gene Hill's staff as the Director of Basketball Operations in June 2018.

Leatherwood spent his four seasons as the assistant men's basketball coach at Hampden-Sydney. He was elevated to the top assistant position last summer. His responsibilities included recruiting, on-floor team and individual workouts, team travel, and meal plans.

Leatherwood is a 2014 graduate of Carson-Newman University with a BS in Business Administration/Marketing. He scored 349 career points as a crucial reserve and helped C-NU reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade in his senior season. Leatherwood was one of best defensive players on his squad, finished his career ranked fourth in career steals at C-NU. He played in 76 games for the Eagles while starting in 25.

Leatherwood played high school basketball at Charlottesville High School in Charlottesville, Virginia. He led his team to three district championships, two regional championships, and two appearances in the Virginia Group AA state basketball tournament. Leatherwood earned All-Jefferson District, All-Region II and VHSL All-State basketball honors and is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,334 points. He has served as an assistant coach for the Charlottesville Thunder AAU organization and as head coach for Team Loaded (VA).
