AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Emily Zipay was named second-team Academic All-America today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), closing out her four-year career with Western Carolina women’s soccer.
The Murfreesboro Tenn. native becomes the first Catamount women’s soccer player to be placed on the prestigious National Academic All-America team. She earned her first Academic All-District III first team on Nov. 7. She became the fourth Western Carolina women’s soccer player to be honored on the all-district squad. It was also the third time a Catamount women’s soccer player earned a spot on the all-district first team.
Zipay is the 31st Western Carolina student-athlete to be named to the Academic All-America list all-time.
Carrying a 4.0 GPA in Biology, Zipay, a midfielder/forward, closed out her senior season with two goals and three assists scoring five points on the season. She scored two game-winning goals against UNC Asheville and Mercer.
In her career with Catamount soccer, she played in 65 games scoring a total of three goals in her career. Zipay was placed on the Chancellor’s List every semester at Western Carolina also earning Southern Conference Academic All-Conference for three years, SoCon Honor Roll all four years as well as the SoCon Commissioners Medal.
Zipay plans to attend medical school after graduation from Western Carolina in May 2020.
