Jim Scruggs, 2006 - Princeton, Ill., native Jim Scruggs lettered three years for the Leatherneck football team and capped his four-year career as a 1976 Associated Press All-American. Scruggs was a three-year starter at defensive tackle, leading the Leathernecks in big plays and tackles for loss his last two years. His three-year totals include more than 200 tackles and nearly 30 tackles for loss. He was nominated as the team’s Most Improved Defensive Player following his sophomore season, and followed that by reaching the century mark in tackles as a junior. After his senior season, he earned All-America Honorable Mention status from the Associated Press and was also named to the All-Illinois First Team. He was looked at by many NFL teams while at Western Illinois, and was signed by the Atlanta Falcons after his collegiate career. For the past 28 years, Scruggs has been employed as an insurance agent for COUNTRY Insurance & Financial Services.
“Many of the things I learned from going to WIU and playing football have helped me in my every day life,” Scruggs said recently. “What I learned from my coaches and professors have helped me in my business and my family life.”
