MIAMI (March 11, 2012) - The Panthers (7-6) registered 16 hits with senior Pablo Bermudez returning to the lineup with a 4-for-5 performance including three RBI to win 9-2 against the Fordham Rams (5-10) on getaway day.

Mike Martinez stayed hot with a 3-for-5 performance, increasing his team-leading batting average to an even .500 on the year. Freshman Aramis Garcia also added a three-hit game with two RBI to bring his batting average to .342.

FIU starter R.J. Fondon earned his third win of the season scattering five hits with a run (unearned) over seven innings of work. The win was the 21st of his career, moving him to sole possession of fifth place on the FIU all-time wins list. D.J. Swatscheno and Jose Lazaro followed Fondon with an inning apiece.

The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the second behind a two-out RBI single by Julius Gaines and a bases loaded walk to Roche Woodard.

Tyler James Shantz plated the third run of the game for FIU with an RBI single in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, the Rams got one back on a throwing error by Woodard to cut the Panthers lead to 3-1.

In the fifth, Garcia continued his hot hitting in the series with a double down the line in left to score both David Vazquez and Bermudez to give FIU a 5-1 lead.

Bermudez extended the FIU lead to 7-1 with a two-RBI single in the sixth. Martinez drove in his 162nd career run in the seventh, inching him closer to Tyler Townsend's career record of 164 RBI. Bermudez added a ninth FIU run with a single scoring Nathan Burns.

The Rams added one in the eighth to make the final score 9-2 in FIU's favor.

The Panthers will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 13 for the first of a two-game mid-week series against the North Florida Ospreys. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. while Wednesday's game will start at 3:00 p.m.
